Freedom to travel safely
WeAre partnered with groundbreaking charity Freedom 2, to amplify girls’ voices on their experiences of sexual harassment whilst travelling and the action that they want to be taken so they can travel safely.
Using creative methods as a platform to discuss this important topic the participant’s work is showcased in an exhibition to amplify girls’ voices and to encourage the wider conversation of how we create safe spaces for women and girls in their local communities. Our photographer Fiona Freund captured photos and designer Lise Meyrick incorporated the beneficiaries’ artwork telling the important story of how girls feel about travel in London.
We created the exhibition Freedom 2 Travel Safely on roll banners. They were first displayed at a panel talk in central London where stakeholders including the Met Police, teachers and campaigners discussed the issues around violence and harassment of women and girls travelling in London. The exhibition has gone on to be displayed at a women’s engagement event at the Met Police and other events for young people.
